TDLR Registered Accessibility Specialist...
What Is TAS
The Texas Accessibility Standards (TAS) are building standards originally adopted in 1993 and substantially revised in 2012 by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation as a result of the Architectural Barriers Act. Texas Accessibility Standards closely follow the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines in order to set standards for accessibility to public and privately owned buildings, places of public accommodation and commercial facilities by individuals with mobility, vision, or hearing disabilities.
What Is A RAS
I am a Registered Accessibility Specialist (RAS) licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). I provide project registration (EAB Number), plan review, and site inspection services statewide for both private and publicly funded buildings and facilities in order to verify compliance with the Texas Accessibility Standards, as mandated by the Texas Architectural Barriers Act. I also provide construction compliance and remediation consulting for projects that have failed to comply with TAS.
What To Submit
The design professional with overall responsibility for the design of the building or facility shall submit one complete set of construction documents (plans and specs) for all disciplines to a registered accessibility specialist not later than the 20th working day after the plans and specifications are issued. A completed Architectural Barriers Project Registration Form shall also be submitted with the applicable fees.
